What I'm drinking: Dona Paula Merlot- Argentina...
Very berry laden nose, ripe raspberry and blueberry. Good fruit, a little bramble from the oak. Finish is dry and a little woody but I like it. -Matt is mobile Posted via email from mmwine’s posterous | Comment »

What I'm Drinking: Valdo Prosecco Brut (pic+notes)
With a light straw color, this sparkling wine has a lot to offer. The Valdo Prosecco Brut starts out with a floral and fruit forward nose. The palate is light fruit and floral notes with a drop of honey. There are fierce bubbles in the glass, which while I like them, may upset the delicate flavors a little. Right now this Prosecco is being offered for $19.99 in a 2 bottle gift box. Definitely...

What I'm Drinking: Paul Cheneau Reserva Brut Cava...
A nice way to start your holiday or New Years party, the Paul Cheneau Brut Reserva Blanc de Blancs is a delicious Cava for the price. This sparkling wine has a slight fruit note up front, but it resonates with toast and that doughy yeast notes of a brut sparkling wine. There’s a granny smith flavor mid palate and finish which is very nice. The bubbles (mousse) are fine but persistent, and...

What I'm Drinking: Dreissigacker 2008 Riesling...
Getting around to a sample of the Dreissigacker 2008 Riesling (Rheinhessen) that I’ve had in the cellar for a little while. This is possibly the only offering from Dreissigacker available in the US, and its their entry level Riesling for approximately $17.  Immediately out of the bottle, my nose was attacked with the thick scent of dried apricots, with an undertone of minerality. The nose...

What I'm Drinking: La Petit Perriere 08 Sauv Blanc...
From the Guy Saget Estate, in it’s 8th generation of ownership, this Sauvignon Blanc has a fruity, melon laden nose. The palate is light to medium, with melon laced citrus. I’m tasting honeydew and cantaloupe. However, There’s good acidity, and also a little “green” note, which keeps it from being a fruit salad. Very nice on it’s own, and very nice with goat...

#weekendwine What (i was) Drinking: Napa Cellars...
With notes of dark fruit and gentle spice on the nose, this Napa Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon is easy to drink. Sweet bing cherry with some spices mixed in when sipped alone, this wine really came alive when paired with steak. The flavor of violets popped up, and all I could write down was “Beautiful with a steak.” Definitely worth it $21 or so to try it! Posted via email from...

What I'm Drinking: Lamberti Prosecco (pic+notes)
Sipping on some Lamberti Prosecco this morning. Fabulous crisp palate, lemon zest and amazing bubbles. Even though it’s an Extra Dry, there’s very little sweetness. It must be on the cusp of Brut / Extra Dry. Fantastic for an aperitif.  —Matthew Horbund - blogger for agoodtimewithwine.com See me on TV:  Visiting Quivira in Sonoma - Visiting Hartwell in Napa - Holiday Wines on...

What I'm Drinking: Franciscan 2006 Cabernet...
Napa meets the Old world. This very dry Cabernet Sauvignon has nice tannins, fantastic notes of leather and black tea. Looking forward to tasting this with a steak tonight. While I wouldn’t rule out sipping on this without food, there’s nothing California Fruit Bomb about this wine. While the wine makers notes note blackberry and black cherry, I really am not finding the same fruit...

What I'm Drinking: Valdivieso 2007 Sauvignon Blanc...
Nose is Floral and Nutty, with a tad of paint thinner. The nuts are most prominent note on the nose, black walnuts.  Medium palate, very creamy. Reminds me very much of a sherry. Palate is also a bit nutty, balanced with a hint of citrus and acidity. Quite different than any Sauvignon Blanc I’ve had, and an interesting wine to try and experience.   $22 —Matthew Horbund - blogger...

What I'm Drinking: Mount Veeder Winery 07 Cabernet...
Nose of black cherry. Medium palate with medium tannin. great fruit burst up front with nice complexities. A little vanilla, a little cocoa, a little pepper and spice. A $40 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that definitely is worth it’s price. I think it’s well balanced, and good on it’s own or with food. A little young, this could age nicely, and I would love to put one away and compare...

What I'm Drinking: Chateau Massiac 2007 Minervois...
Dry with barely noticeable tannin. Earthy and a bit of veggies and herbs. Not much fruit going on here, and it’s definitely a food wine. Great harmony with a steak, though we had it with hamburgers. This wine is 75% Syrah and 25% Carignan.  A very nice red wine in an Old World style for $16.   —Matthew Horbund - blogger for agoodtimewithwine.com See me on TV:  Visiting Quivira in...

Pic: What I'm Drinking - Castello Monaci 2007...
Nose of thick stewed plums and black cherries.  Smooth palate, slightly toasty, subdued black cherry fruit, a little spice.  I would prefer this with food than on it’s own. The finish is a little tart or licorice. Tannin is medium, and definitely has that black tea/astringent taste.   —Matthew Horbund - blogger for agoodtimewithwine.com See me on TV:  Visiting Quivira in...
